As the week in music comes to a close, Hypebeast has rounded up the best projects for the latest installment of Best New Tracks.
This week’s lineup is led by Burna Boy, Lil Yachty and Mitski, who each released the album I Told Them… and the singles “TESLA” and “Star/Heaven,” respectively. Also joining this week are offerings from Black Pumas, Victoria Monét and collaborations from Terrace Martin with James Fauntleroy, EST Gee with Lil Baby and Charlotte Day Wilson with Snoh Aalegra.
Lil Yachty continues his string of single releases with “TESLA,” which arrives as a 4-pack single alongside the previous releases “Slide,” “SOLO STEPPIN CRETE BOY,” and “Strike (Holster).” The artist is set to hit the road next month for his The Field Trip Tour in support of his latest record, Let’s Start Here.

Burna Boy captures his musical journey with his latest studio album I Told Them…. Enlisting the help of GZA, RZA, 21 Savage, Dave, Seyi Vibez, J. Cole and Byron Messia, the artist shares that the project “kind of showed me exactly the way I wanted to express what I was feeling and what my unit was feeling. The spirit of my unit. Just put that in because this is every day.”

Mitski prepares to release her upcoming album The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We, dropping September 15, with the double single “Star/Heaven.” The artist will also hit the road for a series of intimate acoustic performances across Europe and UK.

Victoria Monét drops off her debut studio album Jaguar II, which is co-executive produced by D’Mile, Rachelle Jean-Louis and the artist herself. The record features guest appearances from Lucky Daye, Buju Banton, Earth Wind & Fire and Hazel Monét.

Black Pumas announce their sophomore album Chronicles of a Diamond, which drops October 27, with its lead single “More Than a Love Song.” “’More Than a Love Song’ is a message I borrowed from my Uncle Steve. As a songwriter and caregiver, he’d listen to me write songs from afar and if I were lucky he’d have a pointer or two for me. ‘Life is more than a love song,’” Eric Burton shares in a statement.

Terrace Martin follows up last month’s Curly with the James Fauntleroy joint, NOVA. The third of six of Martin’s album series, the effort is his and Fauntleroy’s take on a Bossa Nova record and features contributions from Robert Glasper and Chief Adjuah.

EST Gee delivers an accompanying music video for his Lil Baby-assisted cut “I THINK,” helmed by Cash Jundi. The track is taken from Gee’s El Toro 2, which serves as a followup to his debut mixtape and features Yo Gotti, Lil Baby, 42 Dugg and more.

Charlotte Day Wilson joins forces with Snoh Aalegra for “Forever,” which hears a warped interpolation of The Foundations’ classic, “Baby, Now That I Found You.” This marks the first solo music from the Toronto singer since 2021’s ALPHA.
